The Serve in September Mini-Grant Program

The Serve in September Mini-Grant Program is a quick way to get money to lead youth service for youth ages 5-25. Service activities must be completed between September 1st and September 28th, and money can be earned for new or existing activities. Classrooms, sport teams, school or community clubs, scout troops, and faith-based youth groups anywhere in Indiana are eligible to apply. Applicants agree to spend the money on youth service activities and complete a short report to share their reach and impact. *Funding is available on a first come, first serve basis. FREE technology for sharing, tracking, and reporting on your service is available from ProAct!

 MINI-GRANTS

Money is available on a 1:2 basis, so for every youth that is involved in the activity, earn $2—It’s that simple!

 Example: If you have two classes with a total of 50 students, you can apply by pledging to complete a service activity and earn $100 to cover program expenses or save it for the next service activity!

SERVICE IDEAS

• Awareness: Raise awareness about an issue related to improving health and well-being. Sign wave in front of your school to encourage safe driving and pedestrian safety, make educational posters to promote proper hydration, or create a fun video sharing the benefits of regular physical activity.

• Service: To celebrate 9/11 Day of Service Remembrance, complete a project benefiting or honoring our veterans and service men and women, complete a campus beautification project, remove graffiti at a local park, teach younger students a new skill or language, or volunteer at a nearby senior center.

• Advocacy: Advocate for a desired change in school or community policies. Write letters to elected officials asking them to ban flavored e-cigarettes, collect petition signatures to create a large mural promoting an important message.

• Philanthropy: Collect spare change to donate to a local non-profit, host a canned food drive for the your local food bank, or volunteer and support a local fundraising effort.

TIMELINE

• Apply anytime between now and September 28th
• Approval: Expect to hear back within 24 hours
• Complete service activity between: September 1st and 28th
• Report on your project by: September 25^th – report link will be sent on August 31^st
