ProAct Receives $18,000 from Eli Lilly and Co. Foundation

Today we received and letter from Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Inc. I was honored and grateful to see we have received a grant in the amount of $18,000 to help pursue our goals in continued service and learning.  ProAct has been around for six years and I am so pleased to see it grow and evolve each year. With each year, we are presented with various challenges, but it is always encouraging to see our work affirmed by such a reputable organization.

On September 29, one hundred and fifty Eli Lilly and Co. employees will join forces with nearly 400 students from Shortridge High School as part of a city wide initiative called Indy Do Day that will activate many volunteers from corporations, schools, and organizations.

This volunteer power will work to implement a new playground at the Legore Boys and Girls Club (5228 W Minnesota St), an outdoor classroom at Seven Steeples Farm (3200 W. Vermont Street), and two Peace Parks at Charles W Fairbanks, IPS #105 (8620 Montery Rd) & the Felege Hiywot Center (1648 Sheldon Ave.).

What is a Peace Park?

A Peace Park is a community-led project conceived by ProAct that promotes unity, diversity, and peace. The Parks can take on many forms to incorporate the spirit of the neighborhood each park is installed, however, these elements remain consistent structures in the park’s model.

1. Labyrinth – Known to help with building teamwork, working through difficult times, developing focus, being calm, dealing with grief, and goal setting.
2. Interlocking Bricks – Represents the core values, relationships, and support we all have for each other as members of a community.
3. Garden Features/Benches – Plant installations that attract pollinators and features to help beautify the space to make it more welcoming.
